The Senior Accountant will play a critical role in providing accurate and timely financial, statutory, regulatory, and compliance reporting to both the local business and the wider group. This includes the reconciliation and analysis of financial data, preparation of financial statements, and ensuring alignment with corporate accounting standards and Australian regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial systems through regular reconciliation and analysis between front and back office systems.
- Prepare and submit timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including BAS, FBT, levies, and other statutory obligations.
- Manage the preparation of statutory financial statements in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards and Corporations Law.
- Support audit processes through preparation of workpapers and engagement with external auditors.
- Collaborate with the Tax Manager on group tax compliance and assist in the preparation of income tax returns.
- Contribute to the budgeting process, annual reforecasting, and long-term financial planning.
- Document and maintain standard operating procedures for financial, regulatory, and compliance processes.
- Participate in and support continuous improvement initiatives across financial and operational systems.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior finance team members.
Key Requirements
- CA or CPA qualification (mandatory).
- 5–10 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably within the commodities, agribusiness, or financial services sectors.
- Strong technical expertise in Australian Accounting Standards (AASB), taxation, and statutory reporting.
- Demonstrated experience with financial consolidations and corporate compliance reporting.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel; experience with JD Edwards (JDE) or similar ERP systems highly regarded.
- Exceptional attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across departments.
- High level of initiative, reliability, and professional integrity.
- Knowledge of derivatives accounting and treasury functions is desirable.
