An exciting 12-month contract opportunity for a Forest Ranger with a State Government Department in Toowoomba, with potential for extension.
Attention all adventure seekers and future land management professionals! Are you looking for a tree change with a difference and wanting to learn new skills and experience new things? We are currently seeking a Forest Ranger to take on a contract role with a State Government department for the Toowoomba region.
This is a full-time, contract position with the possibility of extension. Reporting to the Forest Ranger In-charge, you would contribute to the management and monitoring of the State’s sustainable forest harvesting operations. Substantial travel and living away from base are a requirement of the position but remote accommodation will be provided.
Paid travel allowance and accommodation will be provided when working away from base.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Travelling to rural timber harvesting operations.
- Conducting sales area inspections.
- Sales planning.
- Capturing field information to compile inspection reports.
- Undertaking tree marking and measuring of native timber and forest products (where applicable).
- Monitoring and assessing the performance standards of clients and contractors.
- Liaison with Forest Products stakeholders including clients and their contractors, other Government agency representatives and members of the public.
To be considered for this role, you must:
- Hold a current Manual C Class driver’s licence.
- Have good understanding of the use of computers, iPads and Microsoft 365 software.
- Qualifications for the use of ATV and driving 4WDs will be highly regarded.
- A previous work history in rural areas, with technical experience and a background in farming or agricultural settings.
- Have a positive ‘can-do” attitude.
- Approach problem-solving, with a continuous improvement mindset.
- Be a good team player who communicates effectively and is accountable for the work you produce.
