Join a dynamic team in the State Government as a Communications Officer – (AO5), where you’ll have the opportunity to make a significant impact on road infrastructure projects within the district.
Candidates located across the Southern Queensland Region will be considered. Office locations include Toowoomba, Warwick, Bundaberg, Gympie and Roma.
As a Communications Officer, your primary accountabilities will include coordinating community engagement, providing strategic communications advice, and implementing effective communication strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate community engagement for road infrastructure projects, offering ongoing strategic communications advice to project managers.
- Develop and implement stakeholder management strategies, ensuring effective consultation with various interest groups.
- Provide expert communication support to Senior Leaders, managers, and staff, covering areas such as media and issues management, risk assessment, and community engagement.
- Prepare and manage communications materials, including media releases, newsletters, speeches, and other project-related documents.
- Organise and oversee key communication activities like road commissioning, launches, media opportunities, and events.
- Lead stakeholder engagement meetings with the assistance of technical team members.
- Provide training, guidance, and support to district staff and consultants, enhancing their communication skills and fostering better relationships with stakeholders and the community.
- Develop and implement communication strategies, procedures, and policies aligned with the district’s strategic objectives.
Requirements:
- Experienced communications professional capable of quickly taking on and managing projects, ideally with infrastructure or civil construction background.
- Proficiency in face-to-face engagement, leading meetings with multiple stakeholders, including property owners, local businesses, community members, and local government officials, even in challenging conversations regarding property impacts.
- Excellent written communication skills, enabling the development of compelling and impactful content.
- Flexibility to travel within the district, with occasional overnight stays.
